Pegasus and Mendios
The Amazing Adventures of a Winged Horse and a Little Donkey

Eugene and Friends

by EugeneTrivizas

Pegasus and Mendios was premiered at the Barbican Children’s Library, as part of "Greece in Britain at the Barbican" (10 May - 2 June 2001), a series of events inspired by Homer's epics and Greek mythology which formed a part of Tantalus: A Festival. Following its success, we then took the show to the International Frankfurt Book Fair in September 2001, to New York, for a series of performances in January 2003, to the Grove Auditorium at Magdalen College, University of Oxford in May 2003 where it was performed as part of the 'Writing Between Cultures - Greek Writers in England' Symposium, and most recently to the 3rd Berlin International Literature Festival, in September 2003.

  The Story

Tired of life as an illustration in an old library book on  "Journeys in Greece", the little donkey 'Mendios' decides to pop out for some fresh air. Funnily enough, 'Pegasus', an illustration of the winged horse from the book "Greek Mythology Vol. III" on the opposite shelf has the same idea. Together these new found friends set out on a series of amazing adventures through the ages. The Book, illustrated by Stathis, and translated by John Leatham ,is published by the Greek Ministry of Mass Media, Athens, 2000.

What the Press said

"Packed to the limit, the Children's Library was overflowing with the joyous laughter of its young (but also its older) visitors...the songs beautified the presentation of the tales which conveyed numerous familiar yet each time refreshened Greek images, from the Gods of Olympus, to Theseus and the Minotaur, and even the Shrove Monday Festival of Kites , the children welcoming the clever, comic richness which the songs gave to the stories with endless laughter. "
